Russell Wilson to Discuss Options with Two Quarterback-Needy Teams as NFL Free Agency Progresses: Sources

Russell Wilson, a veteran quarterback, is set to meet with the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants, both in need of a quarterback for the upcoming season. Wilson, who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season on a one-year deal, is now a free agent and will be meeting with these teams to see if he could be a good fit for them. The Browns will have the first meeting with Wilson on Thursday, followed by the Giants on Friday. Wilson is one of the two most intriguing free agent quarterbacks on the market, along with Aaron Rodgers, both with Super Bowl-winning pedigree in their careers.

Last season, Wilson had a late start with the Steelers due to injury, allowing Justin Fields to start the first six games of the season. Once Wilson was back to full health, he helped lead the Steelers to the playoffs as a wild card team. He threw for 2,482 yards with 16 touchdowns in 11 games, with a record of 6-5 over those contests. The Browns, who originally pursued Deshaun Watson, finished with a 3-14 record after Watson struggled and suffered an Achilles injury. Meanwhile, the Giants had a similar record after quarterback Daniel Jones was released mid-season, leading to Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock taking over.

The Giants, unlike the Browns, have been linked to Rodgers in addition to Wilson, and Wilson’s potential signing could depend on Rodgers’ decision. Both the Browns and Giants are in need of a reliable veteran quarterback, and Wilson, entering his 14th season in the NFL, could provide that experience and leadership. Wilson has proven himself to be a capable quarterback, despite his age, and could be a valuable addition to either team looking to upgrade at the position. The Steelers are also expected to be in the running for Rodgers, further complicating the free agency market for quarterbacks.

Wilson’s meetings with the Browns and Giants come at a crucial time, as the legal tampering period for free agents began on Monday and the new league year officially began on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Teams are actively looking to secure their quarterback positions for the upcoming season, and Wilson’s availability presents an attractive option for those in need of a veteran presence at the position. As the discussions with the Browns and Giants unfold, it remains to be seen where Wilson will ultimately end up for the 2025 NFL season, but his experience and track record make him a sought-after free agent for quarterback-needy teams. Fans can continue to follow updates on Wilson’s meetings and potential signings through Fox News Digital’s sports coverage and the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
