A Canadian Armed Forces member stationed in Latvia has been reported missing since Tuesday, prompting an ongoing investigation and search efforts. The missing individual is Warrant Officer George Hohl, a vehicle technician with the 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron based in Edmonton. He is currently deployed to the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia as part of an aviation battalion. This incident has raised concerns among military circles and the broader community in Canada.

Canadian Joint Operations Command’s Lt.-Gen. Steve Boivin confirmed that Hohl was last seen in Ādaži, Latvia. He emphasized the seriousness of the situation and the collaborative efforts that are taking place. The investigation is being spearheaded by Latvian police, who are working closely with the Canadian Forces Military Police and the NATO Multinational Brigade. Various resources are being utilized for search operations to ensure Hohl’s safe return.

The military has communicated that Hohl’s family has been informed of the situation and is receiving necessary support during this challenging time. The authorities are prioritizing the welfare of the family while maintaining transparency regarding the ongoing investigation. The support from both the Canadian and Latvian agencies reflects the strong cooperation and commitment shared by NATO member countries.

Search operations have been intensified in the region, with local law enforcement mobilizing their resources to cover a wide area. Boivin reassured the public that every effort is being made to locate Hohl promptly. The investigation is not only critical for the individual’s safety but also represents a broader responsibility that NATO forces have towards each other.

As the case unfolds, the Canadian military continues to update the public and engage with media outlets to keep them informed. The situation underscores the inherent risks faced by members of the armed forces during deployments, particularly in international missions. The response from the military community also highlights the supportive networks in place for families of deployed personnel.

Overall, the missing person case has drawn attention to the challenges faced by military members abroad while also serving as a reminder of the solidarity and collaborative spirit among NATO allies. As search efforts continue, the hope remains strong for Warrant Officer George Hohl’s safe return to his unit and family back in Canada.
