UFC star Conor McGregor broke his silence on social media regarding his injury that forced him out of UFC 303, firing back at critics and explaining why he believes it is best for Michael Chandler to wait for him to fight. McGregor posted images of his broken toe during a training session and addressed criticism from UFC Hall-of-Famer Chael Sonnen, who suggested McGregor was in “rehab” for substance abuse. McGregor defended his injury and explained why Chandler stands to make more money by waiting for him to return to the Octagon.

McGregor pointed out that Chandler could make ten times more money fighting him than he would in a fight with anyone else. He believes Chandler would need to fight ten times to equal what he’d make in one fight with him. McGregor’s return to the Octagon in September is highly anticipated, with the event set to take place at the Las Vegas Sphere. Adding McGregor to the card will elevate the event to another level, despite some criticism from the MMA community. McGregor’s return to the Sphere could ultimately be best for UFC business and the sport as a whole.

In addition to McGregor’s absence, the UFC 303 card has seen several changes, including the removal of Carlos Ulberg and the addition of Roman Dolidze to face Anthony Smith. Other fights on the card include a Light Heavyweight Championship match between Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka, as well as Brian Ortega vs. Diego Lopes, Mayra Bueno Silva vs. Macy Chiasson, and Ian Machado Garry vs. Michael Page. The event is scheduled to take place on June 29 at the T-Mobile Arena, making it a significant part of International Fight Week.
