Exploring Italy with a curious five-year-old provided a new perspective on travel. While visiting Venice, Florence, Pisa, and Bologna, the author found that even simple activities with a child can turn into exciting expeditions. The decision to travel to Italy was based on the short distance for a week-long trip and the family’s love for the country. Accommodation was found through Airbnb, and transportation was mainly done by trains to avoid the stress of driving in unfamiliar places.

The author’s daughter’s curiosity and engagement with her surroundings during the trip surprised him. From exploring Venice’s canals to questioning famous artworks in Florence and Pisa, the five-year-old’s perspective added a new layer of excitement and exploration to the trip. Activities such as painting Venetian masks, joining carnival festivities, taking a gondola ride, and riding a carousel were enjoyed by both the child and the author. Trains proved to be a convenient way to travel around, providing downtime for reflection on the day’s adventures.

The trip allowed the family to enjoy both cultural experiences and kid-friendly activities, striking a balance that kept everyone engaged and entertained. The author found himself appreciating the popular tourist attractions through the eyes of his daughter, leading to a deeper appreciation for the experiences they shared. The train rides offered a unique way to bond and discuss their adventures, while also showcasing the beauty of the Italian countryside.
