Shrimp, a 3-year-old Turkish Angora cat with special needs, is seeking a forever home with a special person or family. She survived a spinal cord injury in December 2022 after falling from three stories. Despite her injury, Shrimp is described as happy and healthy, requiring only a little extra care compared to a typical cat. She needs her bladder expressed three times a day, a simple process that only takes a few minutes. Shrimp sometimes uses a wheelchair but is capable of moving around on her own. She is described as a cuddly and petite cat, weighing only eight pounds, who loves Churu treats, cozy beds, and endless cuddles.

Wonky Whiskers Rescue, a central Texas-based nonprofit, focuses on rescuing cats with serious injuries, disabilities, and illness. Shrimp’s previous owner surrendered her to the rescue in June 2023. The rescue is hoping to find a forever home for Shrimp before her one-year mark at the shelter. Shrimp is on medication and is up-to-date on her shots and other medical care. While she may seem intimidating to some potential adopters due to her paralysis, the rescue emphasizes that once a routine is established, caring for Shrimp is quick and easy. Paralyzed cats surprise with their resilience and capability, forming extraordinary bonds with their caretakers.

Shrimp’s adoption fee is waived, but interested adopters must meet her beforehand to receive instructions on her care. Wonky Whiskers Rescue emphasizes the rewarding experience of being a part of Shrimp’s journey and the extraordinary bond that can develop between a paralyzed cat and their person. Shrimp is described as a cuddle bug who enjoys snuggling and lounging. The rescue hopes to find a special person or family who can provide Shrimp with a lifetime of love and care. Shrimp’s needs may be slightly more demanding than a typical cat, but the reward of caring for a special needs cat is said to be well worth the effort.

Individuals interested in adopting Shrimp can contact Wonky Whiskers Rescue through Facebook or the group’s website. The rescue encourages people who have not had experience with paralyzed cats to consider adopting, as these cats are often more resilient and capable than expected. Establishing a routine for caring for a paralyzed cat is described as quick and easy once it is in place. Shrimp is described as a happy and healthy cat who is capable of living a fulfilling life with the love and care of a dedicated adopter. For those interested in bringing Shrimp into their home, Wonky Whiskers Rescue is available to provide more information on her care and support throughout the adoption process.
