President Biden and former President Donald Trump both had successful fundraising days around the time of their first debate. Biden’s campaign announced that they raised $14 million on debate day and the morning after, experiencing their best hour of fundraising since Biden announced his run for re-election. Trump’s team also did well, bringing in $8 million in just 12 hours on Thursday. Trump, who is 78 years old, was seen as the winner of the first debate and had a record-breaking fundraising month in May, raising $141 million.

Despite his successful fundraising efforts, Biden, who is 81 years old, raised concerns among Democrats and donors after his unsteady debate performance. During the debate, Biden froze, made verbal missteps, and had incoherent responses to questions. His campaign began the month of May with $212 million in cash on hand after bringing in $85 million. A poll conducted by Leger for The Post found that 49% of voters believed Trump won the debate, 45% said neither candidate won, and only 17% felt Biden was the winner. Despite this, Biden has said he remains committed to the race and plans to participate in the second scheduled debate in September.
