Two sisters from Massachusetts, Kristen Flynn and Sally Peterson, were featured on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna for well-deserved makeovers in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Both sisters shared their stories of being diagnosed with and surviving breast cancer, as well as how Hoda Kotb inspired them to persevere through their health challenges. Kristen Flynn discovered a 6-centimeter tumor in her right breast at the age of 49, despite no family history of breast cancer. After her diagnosis, Flynn received a ring from Hoda with the word “Forward” engraved on it, symbolizing moving past the disease and staying positive. She underwent chemotherapy, a unilateral mastectomy, and radiation as part of her treatment.

Flynn’s younger sister, Sally Peterson, was diagnosed with breast cancer two years after her sister. At the age of 43, Peterson found herself facing the same battle as her sibling. Despite the fear and uncertainty surrounding her diagnosis, Peterson focused on staying positive and providing support to her extended family. Both sisters distributed the “Forward” rings to their loved ones as a symbol of hope and solidarity. Peterson emphasized the importance of having her sister by her side throughout the cancer journey, strengthening their bond and bringing them closer together. Even after finishing treatment, Peterson continues to struggle with the lasting effects of cancer, both physically and emotionally.

Both sisters underwent makeovers on the show to celebrate their strength and resilience. Kristen Flynn received a layered blonde bob hairstyle, chosen to reflect her sleek and powerful personality. Stylist Melissa Garcia dressed Flynn in an Ann Taylor outfit that complemented her new look. Sally Peterson opted for a bold transformation with red hair, chosen to highlight her vibrant personality and boost her confidence. Both sisters expressed their insecurities following their surgeries, and the stylists made sure to address those concerns during the makeover process. Peterson was dressed in a matching set that showcased her love for color and brought out her unique sense of style.

The sisters’ stories serve as a reminder of the power of perseverance and the importance of support during difficult times. Despite facing significant challenges, Kristen Flynn and Sally Peterson found strength in each other and in the community around them. Their decision to share their experiences on national television is a testament to their courage and willingness to inspire others who may be going through similar struggles. By embracing their vulnerabilities and celebrating their resilience, the sisters offer a message of hope and unity to anyone dealing with breast cancer or other health challenges. Kristen and Sally’s journey serves as a powerful example of sisterhood, resilience, and the determination to keep moving forward despite adversity.
