The city of Calgary is facing water restrictions as repairs are being made to a feeder main. The city consumed 492 million litres of water on Friday, which is above the target of 450 million litres per day while repairs are underway. There have been reports of outdoor watering at homes and businesses, despite the restrictions in place. Anyone who flaunts the restrictions could face a $3,000 fine. This is the second round of repairs and restrictions since the Bearspaw South Feeder Main ruptured in June, with repairs expected to continue until late September. Outdoor watering is banned, and residents are being urged to cut their water use indoors to avoid running out of drinking water.

Capital priorities and investments director Francois Bouchart issued a warning to Calgarians to stop outdoor watering during the repairs. Bylaw officers are working through the weekend to follow up on complaints of outdoor watering and issuing fines where warranted. Bouchart emphasized the importance of staying below the 450 million litres per day target to prevent any water shortages. The repair work is ongoing and on schedule, with the closure of a portion of 16th Avenue Northwest next week to facilitate repairs. Traffic will be detoured onto Bowness Road, with efforts to keep the driveways of businesses open.

The city of Calgary is taking strict measures to enforce water restrictions and prevent a potential water shortage during the repair process. There have been 347 instances of outdoor watering reported this week, despite the Stage 4 watering restrictions in place. Bouchart reiterated that the repairs are necessary to avoid another catastrophic failure of the feeder main like the one that occurred in June. The city continues to monitor water consumption levels and is prepared to issue fines to those who do not comply with the restrictions.

Calgarians are urged to reduce their water usage indoors and refrain from outdoor watering to support the repair efforts and prevent water shortages. The city’s bylaw officers are actively working to address reports of violations and enforce the $3,000 fine for those who continue to flaunt the restrictions. The repair work on the Bearspaw South Feeder Main is critical to maintaining the city’s water supply and avoiding any further disruptions. Closure of a section of 16th Avenue Northwest next week will help facilitate the repairs, with efforts to minimize disruptions to businesses in the area.

Overall, the city of Calgary is facing challenges with water consumption as repairs are being made to a feeder main. Residents and businesses are reminded to adhere to the water restrictions in place to prevent any potential water shortages. Bylaw officers are actively enforcing the restrictions, with fines issued to those who continue to violate the rules. The repair work is ongoing and crucial to avoiding any further failures of the feeder main. Measures are being taken to facilitate the repairs while minimizing disruptions to businesses in the affected area.
