California Man Linked to Dating App Murders Previously Wore Disturbing White Mask During Burglary, Police Report

A California man, Rockim Prowell, has been charged with multiple serious crimes, including two counts of murder and attempted murder, based on allegations that he used an online dating app to lure men to violent encounters. Prowell, 34, from Inglewood, is said to have orchestrated these crimes to manipulate victims, leading to killings and brutal assaults. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office highlighted the gravity of his actions, which reflect a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior perpetrated through deceptive means, aiming to exploit vulnerable individuals.

The first known victim, Miguel Angel King, met Prowell on a dating app in July 2021. Following their meeting, King was shot and his car stolen. The vehicle was discovered a week later near Prowell’s home, with forensic evidence linking him to the murder. Tragically, King’s remains were later found in the Angeles National Forest. Nearly two years after this incident, another victim, Robert Gutierrez, met Prowell in a similar fashion in August 2023. Gutierrez disappeared shortly after their meeting, with his body still unlocated, and Prowell was found in possession of Gutierrez’s car when arrested, intensifying the evidence against him.

Prowell’s violent tendencies did not cease with these murders. In February 2023, he lured another victim through the same dating app, leading to an assault in which he bound the victim, stole personal belongings, and physically attacked him with a baseball bat. The assaulted man narrowly escaped, but not before sustaining severe injuries, showcasing the escalating violence associated with Prowell’s criminal activities and confirming the terror experienced by his victims.

Authorities are investigating potential links to over 30 masked burglaries across Southern California, as Prowell was previously on probation for burglary-related offenses. A mask resembling a young White man’s face was found with Prowell during the investigation, which complicates the narrative of his criminal profile. While it remains unclear if this mask was directly connected to his dating app crimes, the disturbing details of his methods reveal a calculated approach to inflict harm and foster deception.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman condemned Prowell’s actions, reflecting on the horror faced by victims who were misled into trusting him. The criminal charges could potentially lead to severe penalties, including life imprisonment or the death penalty. However, a decision regarding the pursuit of the death penalty has yet to be determined. The complexities surrounding each case, including the ongoing investigations and the multitude of charges against Prowell, highlight the significant impact of his alleged crimes on the victims and their families.

As legal proceedings unfold, the extensive network of potential victims and crimes attributed to Prowell underscores the urgent need for vigilance against predatory behaviors, especially in the online space where trust is easily manipulated. This situation serves as a grim reminder of the dangers lurking behind seemingly innocuous interactions and raises important questions about personal safety in the context of online dating. The case continues to draw attention as authorities work to ensure justice and prevent further offenses from occurring.
