Nova Scotia’s North Brewing Company has joined the Glorious and Free campaign, along with over 40 other breweries in Canada. The campaign involves breweries from coast to coast to coast brewing their take on Ottawa’s Dominion City Brewing Company Glorious and Free IPA, using local ingredients. North Brewing Company president Peter Burbridge emphasizes the importance of making things better on a local scale, especially during times when things may seem overwhelming on a larger scale. The brewery sourced malt from a company in P.E.I. to make their batch of Glorious and Free IPA hyper-local to the region. The flavor of the IPA is described as having a nice level of bitterness, similar to a hazy IPA, with refreshing, juicy tropical notes.

Fifty cents from every can sold during the Glorious and Free campaign will be donated to the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre, a cause that North Brewing Company fully supports due to the positive impact the centre has on the community. Burbridge sees this initiative as a way to incorporate truth and reconciliation, especially during a time of Canadian patriotism when it is important to acknowledge the true history of the country. The campaign was initiated by Dominion City Brewing Company with the hopes of promoting local businesses, resisting U.S. threats to Canada, and addressing suggestions of Canada potentially becoming the 51st state.
