Colorado Introduces Mobile Restroom by Team Bench for Season Opener Following Deion Sanders’ Bladder Cancer Treatment

Colorado football entered its third season under head coach Deion Sanders with a promising opening game against Georgia Tech on Friday night in Boulder. The Buffaloes showcased a strong defensive performance, recovering two fumbles and intercepting quarterback Haynes King early in the match. However, much of the pregame focus revolved around Sanders’ health following a significant surgery in July, where doctors removed a tumor along with his bladder. Fortunately, Sanders has reported no signs of cancer since the operation, allowing him to return to coaching on the sidelines.

To accommodate his health needs during games, Folsom Field introduced a mobile bathroom near the Buffaloes’ bench. This initiative, sponsored by Depend, reflects the partnership between Sanders and the adult undergarment company. Sanders publicly expressed his sentiments about the importance of health screenings, protection, and self-care, emphasizing that it takes strength to address these issues. His candidness resonated with fans and supporters alike, as he urged others to seek the help they need without stigma.

Despite concerns about his ability to coach effectively post-surgery, Sanders appeared vibrant and engaged during the game, exchanging animated discussions with both players and coaches. In earlier conversations, he had lightheartedly considered the need for a “Porta Potty” on the sidelines, joking about the potential challenges he might face during lengthy quarters. His humor and resilience have characterized his approach to overcoming health challenges, as he continues to lead the team effectively.

This season represents another milestone as Sanders embarks on his coaching journey without his sons. His quarterback son, Shedeur, is now pursuing opportunities with the Cleveland Browns, while Shilo, a safety, was recently waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Adjusting to this change poses a new challenge for Sanders, who previously relied on the presence of his sons on the field as both players and sources of support.

In his first season at Colorado, Sanders led the team to a moderate start with a record of 4-8, but his coaching prowess shone through in 2024, guiding the Buffaloes to nine victories and a bowl game appearance. The current matchup against Georgia Tech was intense, with the score tied at 20-20 late in the fourth quarter as Colorado sought to continue its successful trajectory.

Overall, this game not only marked a significant return for Sanders after his health scare but also highlighted the growth and resilience of the Colorado football team. Under his leadership, the Buffaloes continue to build upon their accomplishments while adapting to new challenges, showcasing their competitive spirit as they strive for excellence in the season ahead.
