European leaders are expressing grave concern over a series of military confrontations that erupted between Israel and Iran, prompting urgent calls for de-escalation to avert a wider conflict that could destabilize the entire Middle East. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was among the first to respond, emphasizing the need for all parties to reduce tensions. He articulated that escalation is counterproductive, urging a return to calm and diplomacy to prioritize stability in the region. Similarly, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof echoed these sentiments, highlighting the alarming nature of the attacks and the imperative for immediate restraint among all involved.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz convened his security cabinet following a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who outlined the objectives behind the military actions. Merz raised alarms regarding Iran’s nuclear activities, which he believes violate the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and present a grave threat, particularly to Israel. Citing findings from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding Iran’s non-compliance with nuclear obligations, Merz committed Germany to utilize all diplomatic avenues to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, underlining the importance of stabilizing the situation.

French President Emmanuel Macron gathered his defense and security team to navigate the hostilities and ensure the safety of French nationals and military personnel in the region. He condemned Iran’s nuclear program and reaffirmed Israel’s right to self-defense while encouraging maximum restraint and immediate de-escalation. Macron’s diplomatic efforts also included discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump and other leaders from the Middle East, as he sought a collaborative response to the escalating crisis, emphasizing the necessity of peace and security for all regional inhabitants.

Additionally, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan vehemently criticized Israel’s military actions, labeling them a “clear provocation” that violates international law. Erdoğan accused the Netanyahu administration of reckless aggression that threatens both regional and global stability. He insisted that the international community must intervene to halt what he characterized as Israeli transgressions which endanger peace in the area, reinforcing calls for collective action to prevent further escalation.

In Brussels, European Union leaders expressed their alarm over the situation, urging all parties to exercise restraint and seek diplomatic resolutions. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, highlighted the urgency of addressing the conflict for the sake of regional and global stability. Kaja Kallas, the High Representative, described the situation as perilous but reaffirmed a commitment to maintaining diplomatic channels open, aiming for dialogue with both Israel and Iran. As European nations remained vigilant, many foreign ministries echoed concerns about the potential for larger regional spillover if hostilities continued.

Compounding the urgency of the situation, the Kremlin indicated that President Vladimir Putin was receiving real-time updates on the escalating tensions, expressing Russia’s concern over the developments. With a G7 summit approaching, initially focused on the war in Ukraine, the latest conflict between Israel and Iran threatens to reshape the agenda, highlighting the interconnected nature of international relations and the pressing need for a cohesive response from global leaders amidst rising tensions.
