Carisi pleads with the gunmen to let two civilians go, referring to them as a liability. Benson, unaware of the situation, leaves Carisi a voicemail while walking through the courthouse.
During a tense moment, Carisi faces a gunman who points a gun at his head and forces him to lock the deli doors. Benson spots the danger from the window but walks away without engaging. She quickly calls for backup, alerting the authorities to the hostage situation and mentioning that an ADA is involved. In the promo for the fall finale, Benson reaches out to Carisi’s wife, Amanda Rollins, for assistance as they navigate the intense situation. Silas Weir Mitchell also guest stars in the episode.
