Former Congressman George Santos made a dramatic farewell announcement on social media just hours before he was set to begin serving an 87-month federal prison sentence for fraud and identity theft. In a theatrical post on X, Santos reflected on his tumultuous journey in politics, stating, “From the halls of Congress to the chaos of cable news what a ride it’s been!” Despite acknowledging the chaos and occasional glamour of his tenure, he also highlighted the challenges he faced and expressed gratitude towards his supporters and critics alike. Santos pled guilty in 2024 to multiple charges stemming from a broader investigation into campaign finance fraud and was sentenced in April 2024 by U.S. District Judge Joanna Seybert.
