A Florida nurse, Alexis Von Yates, has received a two-year prison sentence after her husband discovered her in an intimate encounter with his then-15-year-old son. The incident occurred last summer when the family was together for a brief vacation. The boy’s father returned home from work to find Alexis with his son on the couch after they had watched a horror film. Following her arrest, Von Yates accepted a no-contest plea to the lesser charge of lewd or lascivious battery on a minor, a significant reduction from the original charge of sexual battery by a person in a position of familial authority, which could have led to life imprisonment.

During the court proceedings, the victim’s mother publicly chastised Von Yates, referring to her as an “incestuous pedophile” who had manipulated and harmed her son. She expressed her belief that Alexis displayed no remorse for her actions and characterized her behavior as cowardly. In addition to serving two years in state prison, Von Yates is to undergo two years of community control and a decade of probation as a registered sex offender. The incident, which occurred on July 26, 2024, came to light four days later through an anonymous tip, prompting a police investigation.

Investigators found that Alexis had been making sexually charged remarks in the week leading up to the incident. On the night in question, while the victim’s siblings were asleep, she and her stepson stayed up late. They engaged in activities like vaping THC, playing video games, and watching horror movies. At a point during the evening, she allegedly told him that she was feeling “horny” and mentioned that she hadn’t had sexual relations in two weeks, which escalated the situation before the father returned home.

The father, Frank Von Yates, was furious upon discovering the two and confronted Alexis with harsh language, calling her derogatory names such as “child predator.” Meanwhile, the stepson fled to the bathroom in shock. Following the incident, the boy’s father took him to his grandparents’ house to remove him from the disturbing situation. The court noted that the plea deal was accepted with the consent of the victim’s family, as the emotional weight of the case impacted their decisions.

Judge Timothy McCourt of the Florida Fifth Judicial Circuit Court highlighted that the plea agreement was in line with the wishes of the victim’s family, acknowledging the emotional complexity surrounding the case. Reports indicated that, since the incident, the boy’s father has not had any communication with his son, straining their familial relationship further. This lack of dialogue underscores the emotional ramifications of this traumatic experience for the victim and his family.

In conjunction with the prison sentence, Alexis Von Yates will also need to complete 200 hours of community service and pay various fines and court fees. Additionally, her professional life has been dramatically affected; the Florida Department of Health suspended her nursing license shortly after her arrest, emphasizing the serious nature of her offenses and the consequences they carry within and beyond the legal system.
