Amid a rise in violence towards Tesla vehicles, showrooms, and charging stations, the decentralized movement known as Tesla Takedown is preparing for a “Global Day of Protest” targeting over 500 Tesla locations worldwide. The protests, scheduled for Saturday, have been endorsed by actors, filmmakers, congressional legislators, academics, and activists, with more than 275 locations in the U.S. and 500 globally set to be targeted. While previous protests against Elon Musk and Tesla have involved destructive actions, leaders promoting the upcoming event, such as Rep. Jasmine Crockett, have emphasized that the protests will be nonviolent.
During a mass mobilization call, Rep. Crockett stressed that the fight was for the country, democracy, and freedoms, emphasizing the nonviolent nature of the protests. The FBI has established a new task force to combat violent attacks on Tesla, labeling them as acts of domestic terrorism. Incidents have included alleged Molotov cocktail attacks on Tesla properties in multiple states and attacks on individual Tesla owners. A Las Vegas resident was recently arrested for his involvement in a Molotov cocktail attack on a Tesla property, facing multiple felony charges.
While there is no central organization behind the mass protest event, local and national advocacy groups, such as Indivisible, have been providing organizational support. Although Indivisible confirmed its involvement in peaceful protests, it clarified that they were not damaging cars, emphasizing their concern for the country. Despite not directly participating in funding or organization efforts, local chapters have been engaging with the event. In response to the planned protests, pro-Trump supporters have reportedly started mobilizing to counter the anti-Musk message, with efforts to gather counter-protesters in various locations across the country.
As the “Global Day of Protest” approaches, tensions rise between anti-Musk protesters and pro-Trump supporters, with efforts on both sides to make their voices heard. The planned protests come in the wake of escalating violence against Tesla vehicles and properties, with the FBI labeling these attacks as domestic terrorism. While previous protests have involved destructive tactics, planned protests are being promoted as nonviolent, with leaders emphasizing their commitment to peaceful demonstrations. Despite the lack of a centralized group leading the event, local and national advocacy groups are providing support, with efforts to engage and organize peaceful protests against Tesla.
