The Mt. Whitney region in California experienced a series of fatalities within a week, with the most recent incident involving a hiker being killed after being struck by a falling rock on the North Fork of Lone Pine Creek Trail. Search and rescue crews responded to the scene and determined that the hiker had died from their injuries.
