Husband’s Request to Dismiss Murder Charge in Suzanne Simpson Case Under Consideration by Texas Court

A Texas court is set to consider a motion from Brad Simpson, the suspect in his wife Suzanne’s disappearance and death, to have his murder charge thrown out next month. Suzanne Simpson, a 51-year-old mother of four, vanished on Oct. 6, 2024, following a reported argument with her husband in front of their home in Olmos Park in the San Antonio area. Brad is accused of intentionally causing Suzanne’s death on that day, along with charges of tampering with evidence and illegal possession of weapons. Steven Gilmore, Brad’s attorney, expressed confidence during a recent court hearing that he has sufficient evidence to move forward with the motion to quash the indictment.

The court has scheduled a further appearance for Brad Simpson on April 22nd, following a recent hearing that was rescheduled from February due to the need for attorneys to review discovery in the case. On the night of Suzanne’s disappearance, the couple attended a party at an exclusive club, where witnesses observed them having a verbal altercation. After returning home, Suzanne contacted a family friend to report that Brad had assaulted her, and later that evening, a neighbor witnessed the couple engaged in a physical struggle outside their house. Subsequently, Suzanne’s DNA was found on a saw belonging to Brad, and surveillance footage captured him disposing of items consistent with evidence of foul play.

Following Suzanne’s disappearance, Brad exchanged text messages with a friend and business partner, James “Val” Cotter, who is also charged in connection with the case. Cotter faces charges of tampering with evidence and possession of prohibited weapons in relation to Suzanne’s disappearance, and investigators found a burn site on Simpson’s property along with burnt electronics and bloodstains in his truck. Bexar County Criminal District Attorney Joe Gonzales disclosed that Simpson had attempted to conceal a reciprocating saw following his wife’s disappearance, and her DNA was found on the saw. Both Simpson and Cotter were arrested in connection with the case, with Simpson currently being held in jail on multiple charges and a federal hold by the ATF.

The case has gripped the affluent neighborhood of Olmos Park, with authorities still working through pages of discovery as they gather evidence against Brad Simpson. The events leading up to Suzanne Simpson’s disappearance, including the reported altercation at the party and the witness accounts of the argument in front of the couple’s home, paint a picture of a turbulent relationship. The discovery of Suzanne’s DNA on the saw, along with Brad’s attempts to dispose of potentially incriminating evidence, further point towards his involvement in her disappearance and death.

The legal proceedings in Brad Simpson’s case are ongoing, with his attorney seeking to challenge the indictment and have the murder charge dismissed. The timeline of events surrounding Suzanne’s disappearance, from the confrontation at the party to the disposal of items potentially linked to her disappearance, form a compelling narrative that prosecutors will use to build their case against Brad Simpson. The involvement of his friend and business partner, James “Val” Cotter, adds another layer of complexity to the case, as investigators work to uncover the full extent of their alleged actions in relation to Suzanne Simpson’s tragic fate.

As the court date approaches, the community awaits further developments in the investigation into Suzanne Simpson’s disappearance and death. The efforts of law enforcement to piece together the events of that fateful night, along with the forensic evidence linking Brad Simpson to the crime, will be key factors in determining the outcome of the case. The tragic loss of Suzanne Simpson has cast a shadow over her family and friends, as they seek justice for her and closure in the wake of her senseless death.
