Ignore the new option to play on GeForce Now, available on Game Pass

Microsoft is making an effort to allow Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to stream games via Nvidia’s GeForce Now, but the process is not as straightforward as one might hope. When visiting the Xbox.com website, subscribers will find an option to “Play With Cloud Gaming” that includes both Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming service and GeForce Now. While GeForce Now offers superior performance, choosing to launch it from the Xbox website redirects users to the GeForce Now website, where the graphical benefits are not accessible without the GeForce Now app.

To successfully play Game Pass games with GeForce Now, users should follow a different set of steps. They need to download the GeForce Now app on their PC or Mac, log in, connect their Xbox account, and access Game Pass games through the app. This method allows players to enjoy the full potential of GeForce Now and customize various settings that may not be available through the web browser version linked on the Xbox site.

While playing Game Pass games with Nvidia’s streaming service can offer impressive performance, there are potential challenges to overcome. For example, trying to launch games like Far Cry 5 and Far Cry 6 may prompt a message stating that the PC digital version must be in the Ubisoft Connect library, without an option to use the Xbox library instead. Similarly, purchasing DLC packs for games like Crusader Kings III via the Microsoft Store may result in difficulties getting them to work seamlessly on GeForce Now, with delays in availability and authentication issues.

As a result, players are advised to be cautious when investing in DLC through the Microsoft Store for Game Pass games they intend to stream via GeForce Now. While base games typically work well, navigating the complexities of DLC integration can be frustrating and time-consuming. Ultimately, while GeForce Now offers superior streaming quality and performance compared to Microsoft’s own service, users may encounter hurdles and limitations when trying to access certain games or additional content through the platform.
