Konami recently revealed more details about the next mainline Silent Hill game, Silent Hill: f, during a Transmission YouTube stream. This new installment shifts away from the familiar town setting to a 1960s Japanese backdrop, with a central theme of “finding the beauty in terror.” The last mainline entry in the series was Downpour in 2013. Following the success of the Silent Hill 2 Remake, which sold over 1 million copies within three days of its release, the series has announced multiple future games. Silent Hill: f appears to be the upcoming title fans can anticipate first, although no release date has been confirmed.

Silent Hill: f is set in a secluded Japanese town called Ebisugaoka, where protagonist Hinako Shimizu must navigate a haunting nightmare as the town is engulfed in a thick fog. Players will solve complex puzzles and confront grotesque monsters to survive in this new installment. The game features a noticeable shift in color palette, with brighter visuals and contrasts that emphasize the beauty-in-terror concept. Additionally, Silent Hill: f marks the return of a female protagonist to the series, a departure from the norm since Silent Hill 3.

Konami’s decision to move the Silent Hill series to Japan signifies a return to its roots, moving away from the previously American-centered settings. The developer expressed concern that the “Japanese soul” of Silent Hill had diminished with each new release, prompting a shift in location. Embracing new locations and cultures could open up endless storytelling possibilities for the franchise, allowing it to evolve and progress. While fans may appreciate remakes of classic titles, pushing the series into different locations and perspectives could rejuvenate and modernize the Silent Hill universe.

Although a specific release date for Silent Hill: f has not been announced, the game is available for wishlist on Steam and the PlayStation Store, with plans to release on the Xbox Series as well. Fans can stay updated on the latest developments by watching the full Transmission stream. In the meantime, gamers can also explore the best gaming TVs under $1000 in 2025 to enhance their gaming experiences. The anticipation for Silent Hill: f is building as fans look forward to exploring the new 1960s Japanese setting and experiencing the horrors and mysteries that await in the fictional town of Ebisugaoka.
