Students for Life of Action recently released their “Make America Pro-Life Again Roadmap,” detailing their plans to combat abortion during the new Trump administration. Despite setbacks under the Biden administration and losses at the state level, the group is confident that there are significant opportunities for pro-life victories in the coming years. With a Republican trifecta in Washington, D.C., and Republican majority control of legislatures, Students for Life plans to focus on increasing protections for unborn babies in states like Michigan, Ohio, and Arizona, which have recently enshrined abortion rights in their state constitutions.

The group is already working with state lawmakers and has confirmed a slate of pro-life bills in 13 different state legislatures. One major focus of the bills is addressing chemical abortion, which now accounts for most U.S. abortions. Some bills seek to ban or restrict chemical abortions, while others aim to raise awareness about their harmful effects. In West Virginia, state Sen. Patricia Rucker is reintroducing a “Clean Water for All” bill with the help of Students for Life. The bill aims to lessen the environmental impact of abortion pills on the state’s water supply and rivers, as well as raise awareness of the dangers of chemical abortion.

Kristi Hamrick, Students for Life’s vice president of media and policy, noted that legal roadblocks, like Roe v. Wade, do not mean that no progress can be made. She pointed to the 2007 Supreme Court case Gonzalez vs. Carhart, which allowed states to protect unborn babies from partial-birth abortions despite Roe v. Wade being in place at the time. In Arizona, where a sweeping abortion amendment was recently passed by voters, state Rep. Rachel Jones is drafting a bill to push back against the amendment. She hopes the bill will help women and young girls understand the dangers of chemical abortion and be aware of all their options.

Jones emphasized that many women make decisions about abortion based on fear and misinformation, and that educating them on the facts is crucial. She believes that her bill can receive bipartisan support, as even some of her Democratic colleagues have expressed openness to increasing education on chemical abortion. By emphasizing the importance of protecting women and ensuring they have access to accurate information, Jones hopes to make a positive impact on women’s health and well-being. Students for Life is optimistic about the future and is working towards achieving pro-life victories at both the state and federal levels.

Overall, Students for Life is gearing up to tackle the issue of abortion during the new administration, with plans to increase protections for unborn babies, particularly in states that have recently enshrined abortion rights in their constitutions. The group is working with state lawmakers to introduce pro-life bills aimed at addressing issues like chemical abortion and increasing education and awareness about its dangers. Despite recent setbacks, Students for Life remains confident in their ability to make progress and push back against pro-abortion legislation. Their focus on education, awareness, and bipartisan support underscores their commitment to protecting the lives of unborn babies and ensuring that women have access to accurate information when making decisions about abortion.
