The driver, identified as Flentjar, dangerously swerved his vehicle towards a highway patrol officer, narrowly missing him and the spikes. After an extensive pursuit that lasted approximately an hour, police utilized aerial support from PolAir to locate the Mustang, which was traveling south along the Princes Highway. The situation escalated when the Mustang crossed into oncoming traffic near Kiama Downs, resulting in a collision with a utility vehicle before it finally came to a stop.
Following the crash, Flentjar attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by members of the public, who held him until police arrived. The accident also impacted a 66-year-old woman, who suffered leg and torso injuries. First responders from NSW Ambulance provided immediate medical care, after which she was transported to Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital in serious but stable condition.
