Southern Charm newcomer Molly O’Connell shared on the “Reality Life with Kate Casey” podcast that her late brother, Patrick, who passed away at the age of 14, deeply impacted her life. Patrick was severely intellectually disabled and lived in a facility that provided around the clock care. O’Connell, who was adopted as an infant, explained that her brother’s death from sepsis when she was just 6 years old motivated her to pursue a career in fashion. She appeared on America’s Next Top Model cycle 16 and credits the desire to make the most of life to her brother’s passing.

The death of Patrick caused O’Connell to feel guilty about not pursuing every opportunity that she desires. She mentioned feeling fear about pursuing a career in music, despite wanting to be a professional musician. O’Connell expressed that her guilt is subconscious and stems from not taking advantage of all the things she is capable of doing. Her parents, who always wanted her to be happy and funny, have supported her in pursuing her dreams, and she and her other brother have a good sense of humor, which their parents appreciate.

O’Connell shared that she experienced multiple deaths in her family during her upbringing, including Patrick’s passing, as well as two uncles and a cousin who died of cancer in a short period of time when she was young. She underwent therapy to help process the trauma of these losses. Despite being told at a young age that she was adopted, her parents have always been supportive and stuck by her side, even when she began acting out in middle school. They have consistently sought out new therapies and ways to support O’Connell throughout her life.

Growing up with the trauma of losing several family members at a young age, O’Connell started acting out in middle school. Despite her struggles, her parents have remained dedicated to helping her and supporting her. They have arranged therapy sessions for her and continue to look for new ways to assist O’Connell in her late 30s. Facing challenges and loss throughout her life has motivated O’Connell to make the most of her opportunities and to not let fear hold her back from pursuing her passions. She acknowledges the impact that her brother’s death has had on her life and expresses gratitude for her parents’ unwavering support.
