The New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control has decided not to renew liquor licenses at two of Donald Trump’s golf clubs in the state following his conviction on 34 felony charges in May. These licenses at Trump’s clubs in Bedminster and Colts Neck are set to expire on Sunday, with the state issuing temporary permits to allow the facilities to serve alcohol until a hearing on the renewals is held. The hearing is scheduled for July 19, eight days after Trump’s sentencing in the New York felony case. Local authorities have already renewed the liquor license at a third Trump golf club in the Philadelphia suburbs.
New Jersey law prohibits the issuance of liquor licenses to individuals under the age of 18 or to those convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude. A spokesperson for the attorney general’s office stated that a final judgment of conviction impacting Mr. Trump’s eligibility for a liquor license in New Jersey will not be entered until after his sentencing on July 11. Despite the Trump Organization claiming that the former president has no connection to the liquor licenses, the state believes that Trump has a direct beneficial interest in the licenses through the profits and revenues received by the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust, of which he is the sole beneficiary.
Forbes recently reported that Trump is the sole beneficial owner of the golf clubs through a chain of businesses and his irrevocable trust. Representatives of the Trump business and campaign have not yet responded to inquiries about the situation. This is an ongoing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
