Jerod Mayo, the head coach of the New England Patriots, is dealing with speculation and calls for rookie quarterback Drake Maye to take over the starting position from Jacoby Brissett. Despite Maye seeing action in a regular-season game for the first time and completing four passes for 22 yards, Mayo has made it clear that Brissett is still the team’s starting quarterback. After the Patriots’ 24-3 loss to the New York Jets, Mayo praised Brissett’s toughness and grit, stating that he will remain the quarterback until Mayo decides otherwise.

The Patriots faced challenges during the game against the Jets with an injury-plagued offensive line, resulting in Brissett being sacked five times and struggling to move the ball effectively. Maye entered the game in the fourth quarter but was unable to make much of an impact. Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt believes that keeping Maye in a backup role for now will be beneficial for his development, emphasizing the importance of learning and preparation to ensure success when called upon to start.

Mayo acknowledged the difficulties of being thrown into a game as a backup quarterback, especially in the crucial position on the field. He commended Maye for handling the situation well and trying to put a drive together when entering the game. Mayo sees this experience as something to build on for Maye’s future development as a quarterback for the Patriots.

Looking ahead, the Patriots will travel to California to face the San Francisco 49ers in their next game. Mayo is focusing on preparing Brissett to lead the team to victory, emphasizing the importance of getting the starter ready and ensuring that the team is in the best position to succeed on the field. With potential controversies surrounding the quarterback position, Mayo and the coaching staff are working to navigate through the challenges and support both Brissett and Maye as they continue to develop and contribute to the team’s success.

In the midst of speculation and calls for a quarterback change, Mayo and the Patriots coaching staff are united in their support for Brissett as the starting quarterback. Despite a tough loss to the Jets and challenges faced during the game, the team remains focused on preparation and building towards success in future games. Mayo’s leadership and decision-making will play a crucial role in managing the quarterback situation and ensuring that the Patriots remain competitive in the league.
