Philadelphia Eagles player criticizes Giants’ home stadium before matchup: ‘I refuse to play in that shabby stadium’

Philadelphia Eagles right guard Mekhi Becton expressed strong distaste for MetLife Stadium, where he spent the first four seasons of his career with the New York Jets. Becton described the stadium as bad and made it clear that he does not enjoy playing there. Despite his negative feelings toward the stadium, he acknowledged that he only has to play there once a year and is focused on doing his best and then going home.

Becton was drafted by the Jets in the 2020 NFL Draft but struggled with injuries that limited his playing time during his tenure with the team. He played in just 31 out of 67 possible games, primarily due to knee and ankle injuries. Despite staying healthy for the entire season last year, Becton had a challenging season, accumulating holding penalties and sacks while playing left tackle. He did not sustain any injuries on the turf at MetLife Stadium but still criticized its quality.

As a free agent this offseason, Becton signed a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the Eagles and made the position switch to starting right guard. While he has not committed any penalties this season, he has allowed three sacks according to Pro Football Focus. Becton expressed motivation for his return to MetLife Stadium with the Eagles, noting that he always felt like the Jets were the “little brothers” to the Giants in their shared home field.

Becton’s return to MetLife Stadium with the Eagles was accompanied by his sharp critique of the facility and his former team’s status relative to the Giants. He highlighted the discrepancy in achievements between the two New York teams, with the Giants having multiple Super Bowl titles and the Jets having a lesser presence in their shared stadium. Becton’s comments indicate a desire to prove himself and showcase his skills in his return to his former team’s home turf.

Despite his negative experiences with MetLife Stadium and the Jets, Becton remains focused on his performance with the Eagles and is determined to make the most of his opportunity with the team. His comments reflect a mix of frustration with his past struggles and a drive to succeed in his new role with Philadelphia. Becton’s return to face the Giants at MetLife Stadium provides a chance for him to demonstrate his growth and potential with his new team as he navigates the challenges of his NFL career.
