Dr. Partha Nandi, a board-certified gastroenterologist and hepatologist, was surprised when his father, Uma Nandi, a brilliant scientist, suffered a stroke. Despite appearing to be in good health the night of the stroke, Uma Nandi had a history of gastric ulcers and experienced some risk factors related to his retirement, such as a loss of sense of purpose and community. This experience led Dr. Nandi to delve into research on the causes of stroke and the connection between gut health and brain health.
Dr. Nandi discovered a link between the gut microbiome and conditions such as stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease. He found that improving gut health can lead to better brain health, with even a small improvement making significant strides. This research culminated in his new book titled Heal Your Gut, Save Your Brain: The Five Pillars of Enhancing Your Gut and Optimizing Your Cognitive Health, which provides preventative measures to avoid gut issues that can impact brain health.
In addition to his work as a professor at Michigan State University and a physician at Pinnacle GI Partners, Dr. Nandi has become a health advocacy juggernaut. He has launched the health and lifestyle site AskDrNandi.com, hosts an Emmy-Award-winning television program called The Dr. Nandi Show, and serves as the chief health editor of WXYZ ABC Detroit. Through his platform, he teaches five simple pillars of health that promote brain health, including purposeful living, healthy diet, movement, community, and spirituality.
Dr. Nandi’s health advocacy platform emphasizes the idea of taking ownership of our own health. He encourages individuals to become their own “health hero” and advocates for simple and affordable steps that can improve gut health and overall well-being. These steps, including cooking with anti-inflammatory ingredients like turmeric, are well-suited for busy professionals like entrepreneurs who are looking for practical health solutions.
As a father of four, Dr. Nandi understands the importance of mental health and believes that good health is foundational to everything in life. He emphasizes the significance of caring for the gut, as it can impact physical, mental, and spiritual health. By focusing on gut health and its connection to the brain, Dr. Nandi hopes to empower individuals to prioritize their well-being and make positive changes that can enhance their overall quality of life.
