Rosie O’Donnell has relocated to Ireland with her youngest child, Dakota, after deciding it would be best for their well-being. She made the move before the second term inauguration of Donald Trump earlier this year and has been enjoying the warmth and kindness of the people in Ireland since then. O’Donnell, who previously adopted four children with her first wife and Dakota with her late ex-wife, Michelle Rounds, expressed gratitude for the Irish citizenship she is in the process of obtaining due to her Irish grandparents. She mentioned missing her other children, friends, and life back home in the U.S., but is trying to make a home in Ireland for her and her 12-year-old child.
In her announcement on TikTok, O’Donnell shared her happiness at the move to Ireland, where she is currently residing with her son and her dog, Kuma. She highlighted the beauty of the country and mentioned the joy her dog has experienced being able to take walks on the cliffs overlooking the Irish Sea. O’Donnell expressed her intention to return to the U.S. when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights, indicating her plan to wait until certain conditions improve before considering a move back. She also mentioned the welcoming nature of the people she has met in Ireland, including a friend named Tom who has shown her around Dublin.
The move to Ireland comes after O’Donnell paid tribute to her late co-star, Michelle Trachtenberg, who passed away at the age of 39 last month. Trachtenberg, who starred alongside O’Donnell in the 1996 film “Harriet the Spy,” was found in her New York City apartment by her mother, with the cause of death not yet apparent. O’Donnell expressed her love for Trachtenberg and regret at not being able to help her during her struggles in the last few years. Reports suggested that Trachtenberg had undergone a liver transplant prior to her death, and her family objected to an autopsy, leading to her cause of death being listed as “undetermined” by the medical examiner’s office.
O’Donnell has been keeping busy in Ireland, traveling around the country and meeting new people, while also reflecting on her life back home and the things she misses. She mentioned trying to find a sense of home in Ireland while she waits for a time when she feels it is safe to return to the U.S. O’Donnell’s decision to move to Ireland and establish a new life for herself and her son has been met with support and warm hospitality from the people she has encountered. Her priorities seem to be centered around ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for her family, while also staying connected to her roots and memories in the U.S.
