Red Sea Global is leading an ambitious regenerative tourism project on Saudi’s western coastline, focusing on renewable energy, social responsibility, and protection of fragile ecosystems. The project includes the development of luxury tourism projects such as the Thuwal Private Retreat, St Regis resort, Ritz Carlton Reserve, Shebara, and Six Senses Southern Dunes Resort. Plans are underway to construct 11 new resorts at Red Sea, as well as eight more resorts at the AMAALA destination. The goal is to enhance the destination while protecting its biodiversity, with the aim of increasing the net conservation value by 30 per cent over the coming decades.
The project includes the preservation of the fourth-largest barrier reef system in the world, coral regeneration facilities, and the planting of 50 million mangroves by 2030. Red Sea Global is committed to running 50 per cent of all resort operations on renewable energy, including a UV charging network powered by renewable sources. The project aims to save up to five million tons of CO2 emissions annually across the Red Sea and AMAALA destinations once fully complete. Activities at the luxury resorts are designed to support the regeneration of the local ecosystem, such as responsible diving, eco-friendly water sports, hiking trails, and ziplines.
Red Sea Global is investing in the local community by prioritizing the hiring of local workers and offering vocational programs and scholarship opportunities to young Saudis to study International Hospitality Management. The company aims to bring the local community into the project development process and create opportunities for sustainable employment. The project aligns with Saudi’s Green Initiative, aiming to transition from oil dependence to sustainable industries. Saudi Arabia has set ambitious targets for renewable energy, aiming to derive 50 per cent of its energy from renewable sources by 2030. The project is expected to be fully completed by 2030, with 50 hotels at Red Sea and another 30 at AMAALA.
