This summer, Starbucks is launching a new beverage, the Strato Frappuccino Blended Beverage, beginning July 8. This innovative drink is inspired by the Italian word “strato,” which translates to “layer.” By introducing layers of various cold foam flavors and colors, Starbucks aims to provide a fresh and exciting twist on its classic Frappuccino, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. The company is leveraging this milestone to introduce a product that pays homage to a beloved favorite while also appealing to current consumer cravings for textured and flavorful drinks.

Susan Engdahl, a member of the team behind the beverage’s creation, expressed excitement about the timely launch of the Strato Frappuccino, noting that customers are familiar with and passionate about the Frappuccino. She emphasized that this new offering serves as a modern interpretation of a classic beverage, retaining the essence of what customers love while enhancing it with layers of flavors for a unique drinking experience. This strategic move reflects Starbucks’ commitment to innovation, allowing them to capture consumer interest during a summer filled with refreshment choices.

The Strato Frappuccino line includes three distinct flavors: the Brown Sugar Strato, Strawberry Matcha, and Salted Caramel Mocha. The Brown Sugar variant combines the traditional Frappuccino Roast coffee base with milk and ice, layered with brown sugar cream cold foam and topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon. The Strawberry Matcha merges Starbucks’ revamped unsweetened matcha with classic syrup, along with milk and ice, featuring a colorful layer of strawberry cream cold foam. Lastly, the Salted Caramel Mocha brings together cocoa and caramel, made creamy with mocha sauce, and is finished with salted caramel-flavored cold foam and a drizzle of caramel, adding layers of taste to this beloved choice.

The development of the Strato Frappuccino was part of Starbucks’ recent initiative called the Starting 5 program. This program allows a select group of coffeehouses to pilot new menu items before they become available nationwide. The Strato Frappuccino was one of the first products tested under this system, receiving positive feedback from both baristas and customers alike. In addition to this, a new protein cold foam, containing 15 grams of protein, is currently being tested and is also garnering positive reviews, showcasing how Starbucks is actively seeking to expand its offerings based on customer preferences and nutritional trends.

In conjunction with the beverage launch, Starbucks will also reintroduce its Artist Collaboration Series merchandise, featuring unique designs by Nigerian-American artist Shadé Akanbi. This collection includes various cold cups and a ceramic tumbler, allowing customers not only to enjoy new tastes but also to engage with art and culture through the brand. This dual approach expands Starbucks’ appeal, blending culinary innovation with artistic expression and thereby enriching the customer experience.

Overall, the introduction of the Strato Frappuccino lineup is a strategic move for Starbucks as they celebrate their 30-year journey with the Frappuccino. By layering flavors and textures, they aim to captivate both longtime fans and new customers alike. The accompanying merchandise and emphasis on community engagement further illustrate Starbucks’ ongoing commitment to providing a diverse and enriching experience for consumers during the summer season and beyond.
