Lucid Motors will be offering its new Gravity electric SUV with native access to Tesla’s Supercharger network, providing drivers with over 20,000 charging points across the US and Canada starting on January 31st. The Gravity will be the first non-Tesla production vehicle to come equipped with a native North American Charging System (NACS) port, eliminating the need for an adapter to charge at V3 and V4 Tesla Supercharger stations. In addition, Lucid’s Air EV sedan is expected to gain Supercharger access in the second quarter of the year, with the possibility of switching to NACS connections in future models.
The Gravity SUV is designed to support up to 400-kilowatt charging at Supercharger and other NACS-equipped DC fast charging stations, which can output 1,000 volts. With a battery pack voltage of 926 volts, the Gravity can deliver power more efficiently at these high-voltage stations, potentially adding around 200 miles of range in less than 12 minutes of charging. The vehicle also utilizes a voltage booster in its rear motor unit to charge at lower voltage plugs efficiently, allowing for quick charging while keeping heat generation to a minimum.
Included with the Gravity SUV is a 500-amp, 1,000-volt CCS1-to-NACS adapter for full 400 kW charging at non-Supercharger stations, as well as a J1772-to-NACS adapter for Level 1 charging. Home charging supports 80-amp bidirectional charging, and an optional RangeXchange cable accessory allows for quick charging of other EVs in emergency situations. The 123 kWh battery pack with new Panasonic cells is estimated to deliver up to 450 miles per charge on the EPA test cycle, providing ample range for towing and various driving conditions.
The Gravity Grand Touring is currently available for order, starting at $94,900 before taxes and destination charges. A Touring spec is anticipated to join the lineup in late 2025, with a lower starting price of $79,900. With its efficient charging capabilities, long-range capacity, and access to Tesla’s Supercharger network, the Gravity SUV is positioned to offer drivers a convenient and confident electric driving experience. By leveraging the latest technology and infrastructure, Lucid Motors is making electric vehicle ownership more accessible and seamless for consumers across North America.
Overall, the collaboration between Lucid Motors and Tesla’s Supercharger network represents a significant step forward in enhancing the charging ecosystem for electric vehicles. With the Gravity SUV offering native access to a vast network of charging points, drivers can experience fast and efficient charging experiences, enabling them to travel longer distances with ease. As the electric vehicle market continues to grow, partnerships like this one will play a critical role in expanding charging infrastructure and increasing adoption of EVs. Through innovative solutions and industry collaboration, the future of electric mobility is becoming more promising and sustainable.
