On Thursday, Nintendo hosted an Indie World Showcase, shedding light on several indie games set to make their debut on the Nintendo Switch. Among the notable announcements was the surprise release of “UFO 50,” an indie game that has gained acclaim since its initial launch on PC. Priced at $25, “UFO 50” is now available for the Switch and the newly launched Switch 2, showcasing a remarkable blend of nostalgia and modern gameplay.

Developed by Mossmouth, “UFO 50” stands out as a unique indie offering that features a compilation of 50 distinct games, all styled in a retro 8-bit aesthetic. The game’s versatile lineup encompasses various genres, including platformers, shooters, and RPGs, providing a diverse experience for players. Each game is crafted by different independent developers, creating a rich tapestry of gaming experiences that feel reminiscent of classic NES titles from the ’80s while incorporating contemporary design elements.

Each game within “UFO 50” presents an independent experience yet collectively tells the story of a fictional game studio named UFOSoft, which supposedly created these 50 games that were never released. This narrative thread ties the diverse selections together, offering a cohesive backdrop that enhances the charm of the compilation. While many games cater to solo players, a number are designed for multiplayer enjoyment, adding to the overall appeal and allowing players to share the experience with friends.

In addition to the announcement of “UFO 50,” the showcase introduced more than a dozen other indie titles that will be making their way to the Switch. Some of these new games, such as “Is This Seat Taken?” and “Little Kitty, Big City,” are set to release within weeks, while others are slated for 2026. Notable titles included in this lineup are “Content Warning,” “Ball X Pit,” and “Ultimate Sheep Raccoon,” among others, showcasing Nintendo’s commitment to supporting independent developers on their platform.

For those eager to experience “UFO 50,” it is readily available for purchase through the My Nintendo Store online and the Nintendo eShop on both consoles. Additionally, fans wishing for a physical copy can preorder one from Fangamer for $35, offering a collectible alternative for enthusiasts and dedicated players looking to add to their gaming library.

Overall, Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase highlighted a vibrant range of upcoming indie titles, emphasizing the importance of independent games in enriching the Switch’s gaming ecosystem. With both familiar and new experiences on the horizon, players can look forward to a dynamic selection of games, enhancing the diversity and longevity of their Nintendo gaming experience.
