A 17-year-old Wisconsin boy, Nikita Casap, has been charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide, two counts of hiding a corpse, theft of movable property, theft of movable property-special facts, taking and driving a vehicle without consent, and two counts of misappropriating ID information to obtain money in connection with the shooting deaths of his mother and stepfather. The bodies of Donald Mayer and Tatiana Mayer, who were identified as Casap’s stepfather and mother, were found severely decomposed in their home on February 28. Prosecutors allege that Casap shot and killed his parents on February 11. Casap had allegedly told a female classmate about his plan to kill his parents and commit suicide.
Surveillance footage showed Casap, who allegedly fantasized about killing his parents and committing suicide, keeping candles lit in the room where his stepfather’s body was located. He was also captured on camera looking at the body and making vulgar comments. On February 23, he left his parents’ home in their SUV and traveled through several states before being arrested in Kansas. Prior to the murders, Casap had been in contact with a Russian speaker through telegram messages. He had asked about living a normal life in Ukraine even after committing the crime. Authorities claim that the Russian individual was aware of Casap’s plan to take passports, a car, and the family dog and flee to Ukraine.
The court commissioner set Casap’s bail at $1 million and dismissed a prior auto theft case against him. It was reported that Casap had left his parents’ home in their SUV and had traveled through Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Colorado before being apprehended in Kansas. Police investigators were able to uncover telegram messages in which Casap was discussing his plan with a Russian speaker. Before the murders, Casap had allegedly made plans to take passports and flee to Ukraine with the family dog and car. He had also reportedly revealed his intentions to a female classmate.
