On Sunday afternoon, a skydiving plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Tullahoma Regional Airport in Tennessee, leaving several individuals injured. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m., involving a total of 20 passengers and crew on board. Tullahoma Community Engagement Officer Lyle Russell confirmed the details to Fox News Digital, noting that an “unknown issue” caused the aircraft to crash into trees and terrain shortly after departure.

Local authorities, including the Tennessee Highway Patrol, responded quickly to the scene of the crash located on Old Shelbyville Road. During a news conference later that day, officials revealed that three of the injured were evacuated to local hospitals via helicopter, while another individual sustained serious injuries and was transported by ground. Many others received treatment for minor injuries at the scene. Thankfully, there have been no reported fatalities.

In light of the situation, officials expressed relief over the limited extent of the injuries, emphasizing their concern for the well-being of the passengers involved. The aircraft in question was identified as a DeHaviland DH-6 Twin Otter, renowned for its suitability for skydiving operations. Local law enforcement reported that there was no damage to ground facilities or injuries sustained by those on the ground, underscoring the isolated nature of the incident.

As investigations commenced, authorities declared the crash site an “active scene.” They urged local residents to steer clear of the area while officials worked to piece together the events leading to the crash. In support of the ongoing inquiry, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was dispatched to the crash site.

Adding to the investigative efforts, the National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB) will assume oversight of the case. Both the FAA and NTSB are collaborating with local airport personnel to uncover more details about what transpired during the ill-fated flight. Ongoing updates will be provided by local officials as the investigation progresses.

In summary, Sunday’s skydiving plane crash in Tullahoma has raised multiple concerns among the community, although the absence of fatalities offers a glimmer of hope amid the distressing event. With various local and national agencies involved, officials remain focused on determining the cause of the crash and ensuring the safety of future flights.
