The latest round of drone strikes by Ukraine’s Armed Forces caused heavy damage at Russia’s largest military training ground, the Kadamovsky facility. The attack also targeted the wider Rostov region, with a missile shot down over a military airfield in Millervo. While no casualties have been reported, an ammunition depot at the training ground caught fire, leading to detonations. The 150th Motorized Rifle Division, based at Kadamovsky, has been extensively involved in combat since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, conducting weapons testing and military drills in the weeks leading up to the attack.

The Sunday strikes by Ukraine also reportedly came close to damaging the Novocherkassk State District Power Plant, following a larger combined attack on the Rostov region the previous week. Using missiles and drones, Ukraine struck refineries and caused a fire at the Kamensky chemical plant. The Novoshakhtinsky Petroleum Products Refinery was also damaged, affecting the needs of the Russian Armed Forces. The Russian Ministry of Defense responded with strikes on the Luch Design Bureau, a Ukrainian defense firm based in Kyiv, in retaliation for the attacks.

Acting Governor of the Rostov Oblast, Yury Slyusar, reported on the air defense forces’ successful repelling of the combined enemy air attack in the region, with eight UAVs shot down and a missile suppressed by electronic warfare. While no casualties from falling debris have been reported, the consequences on the ground are still being clarified. The ongoing aerial barrages between Ukraine and Russia have escalated, with Vladimir Putin vowing to turn Kyiv into the setting of a “high-tech duel” between Moscow’s armaments and Western-supplied air defenses. Drone strikes targeted the city of Kazan, resulting in damage to residential buildings and the temporary suspension of flights at surrounding airports.

In response to the escalating conflict, Putin warned that Ukraine will face significant destruction and regret their actions in Russia. The situation remains tense, with the threat of further attacks looming as both sides continue to engage in aerial warfare. The damage to critical infrastructure, such as the power plant and refineries in the Rostov region, highlights the impact of the conflict on civilians and the economy. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, as tensions between Russia and Ukraine show no signs of abating. It remains unclear how the conflict will evolve and what steps will be taken to de-escalate the situation and prevent further casualties and destruction.
