Aviva Siegel, the wife of American hostage Keith Siegel and a former hostage herself, is pleading for the release of her husband and the other hostages held in Hamas captivity for over 440 days in deplorable conditions. Aviva and her husband were abducted by Hamas from their home in Kibbutz Kfar Aza in October 2023 and held together for 51 days before she was released in a hostage exchange. Despite her own health issues during captivity, she has been tirelessly working to secure Keith’s release. She highlighted Keith’s strength and support for their fellow hostages, expressing hope that he is with other Israelis and staying strong. Aviva emphasized the importance of unity amongst the hostages and Keith’s role in keeping their spirits up.
Her last moments with Keith before their separation were filled with words of encouragement and strength, with Aviva urging him to remain strong for her and for himself. Security officials from the US, Egypt, and Qatar have been involved in negotiations urging for a cease-fire and the return of hostages. Efforts are being made to secure the release of at least 34 hostages in exchange for a 42-day cease-fire. Negotiators are focused on bringing back the hostages who are still believed to be alive and held by Hamas.
Reports indicate that Hamas is holding several hostages who were taken and killed while in captivity, as well as others who were killed prior to being taken into Gaza. There is a prioritization of releasing the most vulnerable hostages, including women, children, sick, and elderly individuals. Aviva remains hopeful for the safe return of all the hostages and is eagerly waiting for the moment she can reunite with her husband.
