As summer winds down, the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) is preparing for its highly anticipated seasonal event, which includes an exciting new contest called “Marriage on the Midway.” This unique initiative allows a lucky couple to have a symbolic wedding ceremony at the heart of the fairgrounds, right under the iconic SuperWheel. Scheduled for August 23, the ceremony will take place amidst a vibrant carnival atmosphere, complete with thrilling rides, delicious cotton candy, and special seating for a concert by the popular band 98 Degrees.

CNE organizers are particularly interested in finding couples who currently reside in Ontario and are at least 18 years old. To qualify, participants must have a meaningful connection to the CNE—whether it be the site of their first date, a cherished tradition, or simply a longstanding love for the fair. Couples interested in entering the contest can submit their stories until August 8, after which a winning pair will be selected and announced by August 15. This provides an exciting lead-up to the event for all participants.

The winning couple will be treated to an extensive prize package designed to enhance their experience. This package includes a custom wedding cake created by a local bakery, unlimited ride passes for up to 20 guests, and $500 in food vouchers for enjoying the fair’s culinary delights. Additionally, the couple and their guests will receive VIP seating to enjoy a performance by 98 Degrees, who will serenade them with their wedding ballad “I Do (Cherish You).”

It’s important to note that the wedding ceremony itself will not be legally binding. Instead, it serves as a symbolic occasion meant to allow couples to celebrate their love in a memorable and enchanting manner. According to the CNE website, this initiative aims to create unforgettable moments amid the joyful chaos of the fair, bringing couples together in a playful and festive environment.

As the date of the event approaches, the excitement continues to build not only for the winning couple but for all attendees. The CNE is set to run from August 15 to September 1 in 2025, showcasing all the customary summer attractions. Visitors can look forward to the thrilling air shows, innovative foods—including pickle-flavored creations—and an array of amusement rides that contribute to the fair’s unique atmosphere.

Overall, “Marriage on the Midway” is an imaginative way for the CNE to engage with attendees and celebrate love in a whimsical setting. Besides offering a fun contest, the fair will continue its tradition of delighting guests with a mix of thrilling entertainment, delicious food, and memorable experiences, solidifying its place as a beloved summer destination in Canada.
