Charlotte and her husband, a couple in their 50s with 10 children, have embarked on a new challenge – renovating a Victorian-era mansion that has been abandoned for 25 years. Renovations can be stressful for anyone, with a survey showing that 85 percent of respondents find home renovation to be a stressful process. Despite the challenges, Charlotte, who has dreamed of owning a property like this for many years, is excited to turn this property into a home for their large family. With seven adult children and three school-age children, the couple is ready to take on the task of renovating this historic property.

After years of searching, Charlotte and her husband found their dream Victorian property in East Yorkshire. Spread across 4,200 square feet, the plan is to turn it into an eight-bedroom home for their family. The renovation will involve significant work, potentially including moving walls to accommodate their needs. The couple is determined to see the project through and are already discovering hidden treasures within the property, such as original stone flooring in the hallway and vintage glass baubles. Despite the sacrifices of time, energy, and money, Charlotte and her husband are committed to creating a beautiful home for their children’s future.

Balancing renovations with raising their three school-age children has so far been manageable for the couple. While renovating with a family is always a challenge, the children are in school during the day, allowing Charlotte and her husband to focus on the work. The kids are also eager to be part of the project, with one son already helping with the renovations. The family’s enthusiasm for the new home is evident, with the children asking to visit the house frequently. This will be the couple’s fourth home renovation, but the scale of this project is unlike anything they have undertaken before.

Despite not having a set timeline for completing the renovations, Charlotte and her husband hope to bring the Victorian mansion back to life with love and laughter. They are prepared for unexpected surprises along the way and are taking each day as it comes. By documenting their renovation journey on TikTok, under the handle @theoldmanorhouse, the family is sharing their progress and inspiring others to pursue their dreams, no matter what their age. Charlotte’s message at the end of their first video underscores their commitment to following their dreams and creating a beautiful home for their family.
