The O’Donnell Estates in Carmichael, California, is a historic property that dates back to the 1850s when the O’Donnell family settled there. The property, which spans nine parcels on six acres, is currently listed for sale at $2.75 million. It includes a restored Victorian farmhouse from the 1880s, a 4,600-square-foot mansion, and 150-year-old olive trees. The farmhouse and mansion are physically connected, making it a unique and special property in the area.

The property, which was the highest-priced sale in Carmichael in 2017, was purchased by Nicksam Properties LLC for $1.7 million. The architecture of the estate is stunning, with the potential to be split into multiple units or turned into a private family compound. The neighborhood initially opposed developing the estate, but the county approved a site plan and possible lot split. The nine parcels are approximately half an acre each, with the estate located at 4434 Mapel Lane.

Marc Turtletaub and his then wife Paula Turtletaub bought the property from the O’Donnell family in 1985. Marc Turtletaub, a former CEO of The Money Store and a film producer, extensively restored the original Victorian home at a cost of between $3.2 million to $3.5 million. The farmhouse retains many original details and features such as custom stained glass windows, solid wood and marble flooring, custom tiles, and marble fireplaces.

The second residence on the property was added in the mid-2000s at a reported cost of $9.2 million. It spans four stories, includes a top-level turret reached by a grand marble staircase, and features a ballroom with a full bar under a large domed ceiling. The property also includes outbuildings, a full tennis court, and a basketball court with lights. The estate has the potential for development or can be enjoyed as a private, one-of-a-kind compound.

The property at 4434 Mapel Lane was purchased by Sunmark Capital in 2015 for $1.55 million. The estate boasts several unique features such as a 500-year-old oak tree, a nature path, butterfly garden, and playground on 9.4 adjoining acres donated by the O’Donnell family for a community park. The listing describes the property as a must-see opportunity for developers or those seeking a remarkable property in the heart of Carmichael.

Overall, the O’Donnell Estates in Carmichael offers a blend of history, stunning architecture, and potential for development or a private family compound. It is a unique and special property with a rich history dating back to the 1850s. Whether the property is split into multiple units or retains its current layout, it presents an opportunity for a new owner to create something truly remarkable in the heart of Carmichael, California.
