Former Trump Aide Believes Pete Hegseth Would Be ‘Outmaneuvered’ by Pentagon Leaders

Former Trump aide Alyssa Farah Griffin criticized the nomination of Fox News host Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense, stating that he would be “outmaneuvered” by top leaders at the Pentagon. Griffin, who also served as the Pentagon’s chief spokesperson in 2019, expressed concerns about Hegseth’s lack of experience working in the Pentagon or leading a large organization. She suggested that if Trump wanted to bring change to the Pentagon, he should not send someone with no experience in that area.

Pete Hegseth, a combat veteran of the Army National Guard who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, was nominated by Trump for Secretary of Defense. Trump described Hegseth as “tough, smart, and a true believer in America First”. Despite his military background, Hegseth has no leadership experience in Washington, D.C., or the military. He left the National Guard in 2021 after being labeled an “extremist” and has been critical of what he calls “woke s—” in the military, advocating for cleaning house at the Pentagon by firing certain officials.

In an interview on The Shawn Ryan Show, Hegseth outlined his plan for cleaning house at the Pentagon, which includes firing the chairman of the joint chiefs and any other military officials involved in what he deems as “woke s—.” He has been vocal about his support for Trump’s America First agenda and his belief that the military needs to undergo significant changes. Critics have raised concerns about Hegseth’s lack of experience and controversial statements, questioning his ability to lead the Department of Defense effectively.

Trump’s nomination of Hegseth for Secretary of Defense is seen as a controversial choice by many, with some expressing doubts about his qualifications and ability to handle the responsibilities of the position. Griffin and others have raised concerns about Hegseth being “outmaneuvered” by top brass at the Pentagon and not being prepared to lead a large organization with a workforce of 3 million people. Despite his military background, questions remain about whether Hegseth is the right person to bring change to the Pentagon.

Hegseth’s nomination comes amidst other controversial Cabinet picks by Trump, including former Hawaii U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard for director of national intelligence and now-former Florida U.S. Representative Matt Gaetz for attorney general (Gaetz resigned shortly after being nominated). These choices have raised eyebrows among congressional lawmakers and sparked debates about the qualifications and intentions behind Trump’s Cabinet picks. The nomination of Hegseth for Secretary of Defense adds to the growing concerns about the direction of Trump’s administration and the individuals he is choosing to lead key government departments.

As Trump prepares to take office, the nomination of Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense is likely to face scrutiny and criticism from both sides of the political aisle. While some view Hegseth as a strong proponent of Trump’s agenda and a defender of the military, others question his ability to lead a complex organization like the Pentagon. The debate over Hegseth’s nomination highlights larger issues surrounding Trump’s Cabinet picks and the direction of his administration as he prepares to take the reins of power.
