A nurse named Meggan Randall Sundwall attempted to murder her friend, Kacee Lyn Terry, by injecting her with a fatal dose of insulin in order to claim a possible $1.5 million life insurance policy. The police discovered more than 28,000 text messages between the two women, which showed Sundwall’s fixation with helping her friend commit suicide. The messages included discussions about different ways for Sundwall to kill herself if she were Terry, as well as Sundwall offering to “help” her friend die, all apparently for financial gain.

The text exchanges between Sundwall and Terry dated back to December 2019 and detailed Sundwall’s apparent financial struggles and belief that being the beneficiary of Terry’s life insurance policy would fix her problems. Sundwall seemed to believe that Terry had a life insurance policy and that she would receive a significant payout from it. Despite Terry’s family expressing relief after Sundwall’s arrest, believing that she had been trying to kill her for years, Sundwall continued with her plan to murder Terry by sending a text on the morning of the crime suggesting that Terry take medication to fall asleep before the incident. The police were called to Terry’s home where they found her unresponsive due to insulin poisoning.

When Terry arrived at the hospital, it was discovered that her blood sugar level had dropped significantly to a potentially lethal level, although she was not diabetic. Sundwall claimed that Terry had signed a do-not-resuscitate order and insisted that she did not want to go to the hospital. However, further investigation revealed that Terry did not have any underlying health issues, including cancer, as claimed by Sundwall. The autopsy confirmed that Terry died from an overdose of insulin, promethazine, and other drugs, leading to Sundwall’s arrest on charges including first-degree aggravated murder and third-degree obstruction of justice.

After Terry’s death, Sundwall allegedly deleted more than 900 text messages from her phone and conducted a search for Terry’s life insurance policy. The investigation revealed the extent of Sundwall’s plan to claim the life insurance policy and how she manipulated Terry into believing she had a terminal illness. Terry’s family addressed their suspicions that Sundwall had been trying to kill her for years, and they were relieved upon Sundwall’s arrest. The Medical Examiner confirmed that Terry’s cause of death was an overdose of insulin, highlighting the severity of Sundwall’s actions in attempting to murder her friend for financial gain.

Ultimately, Sundwall’s attempt to murder Terry for the life insurance payout ended in failure, as her plan was discovered and she was charged with serious offenses including aggravated murder. The text exchanges between Sundwall and Terry detailed the extent of Sundwall’s fixation with her friend’s suicide, as well as her belief that the life insurance policy would solve her financial problems. Terry’s family was shocked to learn that she did not have cancer or any other underlying health issues as claimed by Sundwall, and they expressed relief upon Sundwall’s arrest as it confirmed their suspicions that she was not acting in Terry’s best interests. Terry’s tragic death was a result of Sundwall’s greed and manipulation, which led to the medical examiner confirming the cause of death as an overdose of insulin and other drugs.
