The police in Malaysia have denied accusations of inaction in response to allegations of criminal activities and abuses by the Giant Islamic Sovereign Brotherhood (GISB). A police official, Mr Razarudin, insisted that they did not delay taking action and had been gathering as much information as possible before moving forward. This comes after the Sultan of Selangor voiced disappointment over the perceived lack of effective action against GISB and highlighted the weaknesses in monitoring and enforcing laws by religious organizations in relation to charity homes and religious schools linked to GISB. The organization’s extensive network was said to have exacerbated the seriousness of the issue.

Malaysian king Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar had directed the police to launch a swift and thorough investigation into the criminal and abuse allegations at several care homes associated with GISB. He also emphasized the need to prioritize matters concerning the Islamic faith and ensure they are not taken lightly. During a press conference, Mr Razarudin provided an update on the police’s asset seizures and freezes related to the case. A total of 138 bank accounts linked to GISB containing nearly RM900,000 have been frozen, and 15 other accounts have been closed. In addition, 38 vehicles valued at around RM3.8 million and 14 lots of land have been seized, with the value of the land still being determined. Animals such as horses, rabbits, and peacocks were also confiscated during the raids.

GISB, established in 2010, has a significant presence in Malaysia and abroad, with assets totaling approximately RM325 million globally. The organization’s holdings include bakeries, minimarts, and other businesses. The revelations of criminal activities and abuses within GISB have raised concerns about its far-reaching impact and the effectiveness of monitoring and law enforcement by religious organizations. The authorities have been urged to take decisive action to address the situation and ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions. The large-scale asset seizures and freezes demonstrate the seriousness with which the police are approaching the investigation, aiming to dismantle the illicit network and bring justice to the victims of abuse and exploitation.

The involvement of the Selangor Royal Office and the Malaysian monarchy in pushing for a swift and thorough investigation reflects the gravity of the situation and the commitment to upholding justice and accountability. The fact that individuals in positions of authority are taking a proactive stance on the issue emphasizes the importance of addressing criminal activities and abuses within religious organizations. The seizures of assets such as bank accounts, vehicles, land, and animals demonstrate the comprehensive nature of the police’s efforts to dismantle GISB and prevent further harm to vulnerable individuals under their care. The public scrutiny and media attention surrounding this case are likely to exert further pressure on the authorities to ensure a transparent and effective investigation that will lead to the prosecution of those responsible.

The response from the police to the allegations against GISB reflects a commitment to upholding the rule of law and holding accountable those who have engaged in criminal activities and abuses. By freezing bank accounts, seizing vehicles and land, and confiscating animals, the authorities are sending a strong message that such behavior will not be tolerated. The involvement of high-ranking officials, including the Sultan of Selangor and the Malaysian king, underscores the seriousness of the situation and the need for swift and decisive action. As the investigation continues, the focus will remain on ensuring that justice is served and that the victims of abuse within GISB are given the support and protection they need. The widespread impact of GISB’s network and the scale of its assets highlight the importance of thorough monitoring and enforcement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
