The police in Melbourne have released an image of a person of interest in a firebombing incident that took place earlier this year in which a woman lost her life. The incident, linked to the tobacco wars, occurred in Melbourne’s west and resulted in the death of 27-year-old Katie Tangey, who was house-sitting for her brother and sister-in-law at the time of the attack. Police have returned to the site of the fatal house fire in hopes of gathering more information to aid in their investigation.
A ring camera at the Dover Street house captured the moment the house was engulfed in flames, as well as two men fleeing the scene, with one of them appearing to be carrying a jerry can. CCTV footage also showed two individuals getting out of a dark-coloured vehicle, believed to be a BMW X3 or X5, before the explosion at the house in Truganina. The same car was later seen travelling north on Forsyth Road. Police suspect that Tangey and her family were not the intended target of the attack and that she was caught up in a tragic case of mistaken identity. A golden retriever also died in the fire.
The facefit image of the person of interest, compiled from CCTV footage, depicts a man described as Middle Eastern in appearance, in his late 20s, and with a slim build. Police are urging anyone who recognizes the man in the image, or has knowledge of those involved, the location of the car, or any other relevant information, to come forward and assist with the investigation. Detective Inspector Chris Murray from the arson and explosives squad emphasized the importance of cooperation from the public in solving this case.
The police have made a public appeal for information related to the investigation, starting at 7am on Thursday. They are hopeful that by releasing the image of the person of interest and providing details about the incident, they will be able to gather valuable leads that could help in identifying the individuals responsible for the firebombing that claimed the life of Katie Tangey. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and help bring those responsible to justice.
The release of the facefit image and details about the investigation is part of the ongoing efforts by the police to solve this case and bring closure to the family and loved ones of the victim. The tragic death of Katie Tangey has deeply impacted the community, and law enforcement is committed to pursuing every lead and avenue in order to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the deadly firebombing. The public’s assistance in providing any information that could aid in the investigation is crucial in bringing a resolution to this tragic incident.
As the investigation into the firebombing incident continues, police are actively pursuing leads and exploring all possible avenues to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. The cooperation and support of the public are vital in ensuring that justice is served for Katie Tangey and her family, as well as in preventing similar acts of violence from occurring in the future. Law enforcement remains dedicated to bringing those responsible to account and encouraging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation. The community’s support is essential in achieving a resolution in this case and ensuring that justice is served for the victim and her loved ones.
