Anti-Israel protesters clashed with police and set off smoke bombs while trying to disrupt President Biden’s fundraiser in Manhattan. Thirty-two demonstrators were arrested as they marched toward the Hammerstein Ballroom. Video footage shows the protesters, many masked, and police in riot gear pushing each other on the sidewalk near the venue. Some protesters attempted to wrestle those being taken into custody away from the police, leading to chaotic scenes.

Protesters chanted slogans like “Intifada revolution” and briefly stormed the lobby of a building before returning to the street. The demonstration was organized by the anti-Israel group Within Our Lifetime, who stated that genocidal politicians are not welcome in New York City. Inside the Hammerstein Ballroom, over 640 donors listened to President Biden reiterate his belief that he is capable of running the country for a second term. Tickets for the fundraiser ranged from $250 to $500,000, with celebrity attendees including actors Billy Porter and Alan Cumming.

The fundraiser and protests occurred following Biden’s lackluster performance in the first presidential debate with Donald Trump and a call from the New York Times Editorial Board for Biden to step down due to his age. Biden had arrived in New York for a two-day fundraising trip, kicking off with an event in Greenwich Village to commemorate the Stonewall Inn riots. The next day, he was expected to attend a star-studded fundraiser at a hedge fund manager’s estate in East Hampton, with tickets ranging from $3,300 to $100,000 for a photo with the president.

Biden’s confidence in his ability to handle the presidency in a second term was evident as he addressed supporters at the fundraiser, emphasizing that the stakes were too high to not run again. The clash between protesters and police outside the Hammerstein Ballroom highlighted the ongoing tensions surrounding Biden’s presidency and his policies. Despite the disruptions, Biden continued his fundraising efforts, meeting with high-profile donors and celebrities to garner support for his reelection campaign.

The protests underscored the divide in public opinion regarding Biden’s leadership, with some seeing him as a genuine threat to the nation while others supporting his efforts to lead the country. The involvement of prominent figures in Biden’s fundraising events, such as Elton John and Sarah Jessica Parker, highlighted the broad support he enjoys within certain circles. As Biden navigates the challenges of his presidency and reelection campaign, the clashes between protesters and police serve as a stark reminder of the complexities and tensions that define American politics in the current climate.

Overall, the protests at Biden’s fundraiser reflect the diverse views and opinions surrounding his presidency and policies. The clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement underscore the ongoing challenges and divisions in American society, with some supporting Biden’s leadership while others vehemently oppose his actions. Biden’s fundraising efforts continue to draw high-profile donors and celebrities, indicating solid support for his reelection campaign within certain circles. As Biden faces criticism and calls to step down, the events in Manhattan highlight the ongoing debates and controversies surrounding his presidency and the upcoming election.
