NHRA funny car driver Ron Capps was involved in a scary crash during the Arizona Nationals, where the top of his car exploded and he careened into the left guard wall. Despite the terrifying incident, Capps was able to get out of his vehicle under his own power and was examined by the on-site medical team before being released. Capps, who has 75 wins in a funny car, thanked the NHRA Safety Safari and his sponsors for their support, ensuring that he will be back on the track in Pomona.

In a separate incident, Michael Jordan’s co-owned 23XI Racing is facing a NASCAR countersuit amid a charter fallout. This development has caused further complications for the team as it navigates through the 2024 season. Despite the challenges, Capps has continued to perform well on the track. He reached the final round in Gainesville, Florida, at the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals and finished third in the funny car standings last year. Capps’ resilience and determination have been evident, proving his commitment to the sport despite the risks involved.

Capps had a successful 2023 season with three wins and four runner-up finishes, but he was unable to secure a victory in 2024, reaching the final round in four events. Despite this, Capps remains focused on his performance and looks forward to future competitions. Capps’ dedication to the sport and his skill as a driver have earned him a strong reputation within the NHRA community, and fans continue to support him as he faces challenges and setbacks along the way.

In addition to his own racing career, Capps has shown support for fellow drivers within the NHRA, including John Force, who experienced a frightening crash in June. Force, who suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of the crash, has been back at the track this season to support his family members and fellow drivers. The NHRA community has rallied around Force, demonstrating the camaraderie and sportsmanship that define the organization. Capps’ own experience with a crash serves as a reminder of the risks involved in the sport, but also the importance of safety measures and support systems in place to protect drivers.

As Capps continues to compete in the NHRA and overcome challenges on the track, his resilience and determination shine through. Despite the setbacks and risks involved in racing, Capps remains focused on his performance and committed to his passion for the sport. With the support of his team, sponsors, and fans, Capps looks ahead to future competitions and remains grateful for the opportunity to continue doing what he loves. As he navigates the ups and downs of the racing world, Capps’ strength and perseverance serve as an inspiration to those around him, reinforcing the spirit of competition and camaraderie within the NHRA community.
