Sources: NYPD sergeant accused of potentially providing classified information to foreign agents

The FBI is investigating allegations that an NYPD sergeant named Zhu Jiang accessed classified information on behalf of “foreign agents,” causing him to be suspended without pay while the investigation is ongoing. Jiang joined the NYPD in January of 2013 and quickly advanced to more specialized units, including working in the vice squad and Brooklyn South Narcotics before transferring to a joint federal health-care task force at the Jacob K. Javits Federal Building. Despite his suspension, Jiang has not faced any criminal charges as of yet.

Sergeant Zhu Jiang, who earned over $169,000 last year, has received recognition for his police duty on nine occasions between 2015 and 2019. He most recently worked out of a Lower Manhattan federal building as part of a task force investigating health-care fraud schemes. Before that, Jiang was in the vice squad handling transcripts in a wire room and then worked in Brooklyn South Narcotics for less than two years. His well-connected role in the federal task force began in October, as shown in records.

At this point, Jiang has not been reachable for comment by The Post, and the NYPD has not responded to requests for information regarding his suspension. The investigation into allegations of accessing classified information for “foreign agents” is ongoing, and it remains to be seen what further developments will arise from the federal probe. Jiang’s suspension without pay indicates the seriousness of the situation and the potential implications of the sensitive material he may have accessed.

The circumstances surrounding Sergeant Zhu Jiang’s suspension and the FBI investigation raise concerns about the security of classified information within law enforcement agencies. Given Jiang’s previous roles within the NYPD and the federal task force, his potential access to sensitive material poses a risk that is being scrutinized by federal authorities. The recognition Jiang received for his police duty contrasts with the allegations being investigated, adding a layer of complexity to the case.

As the investigation continues, the focus remains on determining whether Jiang accessed classified information for foreign agents and what repercussions, if any, may result from these actions. Jiang’s suspension from the NYPD highlights the seriousness of the situation and the need for accountability within law enforcement agencies. The lack of criminal charges against Jiang thus far suggests that the investigation is still in progress, with additional information likely to emerge as the probe unfolds. The involvement of federal authorities underscores the gravity of the allegations and the potential implications for national security.
