King Charles III and Queen Camilla of Britain embarked on a state visit to Italy where they met with President Sergio Mattarella and toured various iconic landmarks in Rome. The royal couple enjoyed a joint flyover by Italy’s Frecce Tricolori and the RAF’s Red Arrows before laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and exploring the Colosseum. They interacted with schoolchildren, locals, and tourists, generating excitement and emotions among the crowd.

Continuing their visit, King Charles and Queen Camilla met with the British community in Rome at a gathering in the gardens of the British ambassador’s residence, Villa Wolkonsky. The event featured a military band playing both the British national anthem and hits by The Beatles, creating a festive atmosphere for the attendees. The royal couple’s visit coincided with their 20th wedding anniversary, and they were in for a state banquet hosted by President Mattarella at the Quirinale Palace.

During the visit, King Charles is scheduled to meet with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and make history by addressing a joint session of the Italian Parliament. This marks a significant milestone as it is the first time a British monarch has addressed the Italian Parliament. Charles will aim to strengthen the bonds between Britain and Italy, both NATO allies, at a time when European nations are showing support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.

The state visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla showcases the diplomatic ties between Britain and Italy and emphasizes the historical significance of their interactions with political leaders and community members. The royal couple’s presence in Italy symbolizes the enduring relationship between the two nations and underscores the role of the monarchy in international relations.
