Utah Governor Reports Over 7,000 Tips Received in Charlie Kirk Killing as Manhunt Ongoing

On Thursday, Utah Governor Spencer Cox announced that authorities have received over 7,000 digital tips and leads in connection with the shooting death of Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA. This volume of tips is noted to be the highest since the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Kirk was shot Wednesday afternoon on the campus of Utah Valley University and was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The investigation has prompted a massive manhunt for the unidentified suspect, and Governor Cox underscored that public assistance is crucial in the ongoing search.

At the news briefing, Governor Cox revealed that nearly 200 interviews have been conducted as part of the investigation into Kirk’s murder. Authorities are also preparing to pursue the death penalty should the case proceed to trial. Cox’s optimistic outlook is bolstered by the hope that newly released images and surveillance videos will generate further valuable tips from the community. The FBI has offered a reward of $100,000 for anyone who can provide information leading to the identification and arrest of the shooter responsible for this high-profile murder.

In their ongoing efforts to apprehend the suspect, officials released additional video footage showing the individual escaping the scene shortly after the shooting. This footage captured the suspect descending from a roof on the university campus before fleeing. A nearby homeowner also shared video showing the person of interest within their neighborhood after Kirk was shot. These developments highlight the urgency of the situation, as investigators race against time to piece together the events surrounding the tragic incident.

Shortly prior to the governor’s press conference, new photographs of the suspect were disclosed. The individual is depicted walking down steps with a black backpack, wearing a shirt that appeared to feature a patriotic design, including an American flag and a Bald Eagle. The FBI’s Salt Lake City field office provided supplemental images, showing the person dressed similarly, complete with a baseball cap and sunglasses. Officials indicated that the individual, who appeared to be of college age, blended in with the student population on campus, complicating efforts to identify them.

Crucially, investigators believe they have recovered the firearm used in Kirk’s shooting: a high-powered bolt-action rifle found in a wooded area adjacent to the university. The recovery of this weapon could be significant in confirming critical details surrounding the murder and the identity of the shooter. As state and federal investigators continue their quest for justice, the community remains on high alert for any signs of the individual responsible for such a tragic act.

As the investigation unfolds, Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance were present at the emotional moment when Kirk’s casket was escorted onto Air Force Two for transport back to his home state of Arizona. The deeply poignant scene included Kirk’s wife, Erika Frantzve, visibly distressed as she watched the casket pass by. The second lady comforted Frantzve, holding her hand as they stepped off the aircraft—a stark reminder of the personal tragedies resulting from this devastating event. This incident not only impacts Kirk’s family but also resonates throughout the community as authorities work diligently to ensure justice is served.
